Brief Biography:
Andrea McDonnell is a media scholar and author whose work examines the intersection of gossip, celebrity, gender, politics, and everyday life. Her (2024) book, Celebrity Rhetoric and Sexual Misconduct Cases was recently published by Routledge. She is also author of Reading Celebrity Gossip Magazines (Polity, 2014) and co-author, with Susan Douglas, of Celebrity: A History of Fame (NYU, 2019). She is co-editor, with Adam Silver, of A Gossip Politic (Palgrave, 2023).
Professor McDonnell is the U.S. series Editor for Bloomsbury’s International Library of Gender and Popular Culture and member of the Ross Priory Broadcast Talk Seminar Group. She holds a B.A. in American Culture from Vassar College and a Ph.D. in Communication Studies from the University of Michigan.
