Middle Eastern Studies Talk This Past Monday!

This past Monday, the Middle Eastern Studies Program welcomed Dr. Pamela Karimi for a talk on Women, Art, Freedom: Art and Street Politics in Iran. She explored the role of art in Iranian protests, particularly in the Women, Life, Freedom movement, highlighting public performances, graffiti, and anonymous installations as acts of resistance. Dr. Karimi discussed the influence of the Book of Kings, the Iranian diaspora’s role in documenting protests, and the risks faced by artists. She emphasized how feminist protest art, often wordless and symbolic, challenges state control and reclaims public space. Thank you, Dr. Karimi, for an insightful discussion!
