Dr. Shanna Pearson Speaks to the “Power of Partisanship”

On Thursday, October 5, Dr. Shanna Pearson of the University of Maryland visited PC to speak to The Power of Partisanship and The Future of U.S. Democracy, an event co-sponsored by the Political Science Department, the Public Administration Program, and the Dialogue, Inclusion, and Democracy Lab.

A professor at the School of Public Policy at UMD, Dr. Pearson discussed her new book The Power of Partisanship (co-authored with Joshua Dyck). In the book, Pearson and Dyck show how partisan identity has come to shape numerous aspects of American life, from how we think about important policy issues to our attitudes about vaccines to the kinds of foods we eat. The book’s provocative findings led to an engaging discussion featuring students and faculty from across campus.
